It was a fun-filled night at Kechara Oasis Vegetarian Restaurant last Friday when more than 140 Kechara members and friends gathered to let their hair down and sing their hearts out at the Karaoke Middle Eastern Starry Starry Night organized by Central Fund Raising Committtee (CFC).  CFC (now known as Kechara Events) led by its Head of Department Margaret Lee worked very hard to put together a fantastic Karaoke night based on a Middle Eastern theme. The interior of Kechara Oasis was completely transformed into a majestic Arabian tent fit for a Maharaja!

Guests came dressed for the occasion in vibrant and colourful Arabian outfits, certainly living up to the Middle Eastern theme.  Many people vied for their turn at the karaoke mic and throughout the night, many latent singing talents were discovered. The guests were treated to a buffet of healthy and delicious vegetarian finger food prepared by Kechara Oasis’s talented chefs.

The night’s highlights were the drag performances by Kechara members such as Dream Girls, Madame Butterfly, Swan Lake and Mariah “Curry”.  The “girls” were naturals and hilarious and the crowd were totally entertained by the performances.  The Swan Lake repeated their performance in response to the audience calling out encore!

Towards the end of the night there were lucky draws and guess “How many M&Ms in the bottle” contest. On behalf of His Eminence Tsem Tulku Rinpoche, the Head Liaison of Tsem Ladrang, JP Thong presented gifts, flowers and khatas to the CFC committee members and the performers as an appreciation for putting together this event .  The night did not end there.  Many guests had already thoroughly warmed up by then and continued dancing into the night to beat of the music and karaoke song.

It was a very successful Karaoke night and everyone had a great time. Kudos to CFC for a organising such a splendid fundraiser for Kechara!! Well done!!

In Kechara, we certainly believe in being spiritual while continuing to be ourselves and have fun! A big thank you to all our star performers of the night for supporting Kechara’s Dharma work and being willing to do whatever is required to help the Dharma centre grow!
